This course is structured so that the students will use the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. They will continue to explore works of various artists and art movements.

UPPER SCHOOL
ART STUDIO I
DESCRIPTION
This course is structured to meet State and National Standards and is a foundation course. The are student will investigate his/her personal talents, abilities, and interests through a series of explorations in drawing, three-dimensional design, and the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. The Elements and Principals of Art and Design are fundamental and common to all forms of visual expression.
ART STUDIO II: Drawing and Painting
DESCRIPTION
This course is structured to enable the student to develop his/her talents in two-dimensional representation. Emphasis will be placed on developing the student's direct observation drawing abilities as well as creative ideas through units involving drawing and painting. The painting aspects of the course will feature primarily aqueous media such as watercolor, tempera, and acrylics, color theory and composition. The drawing aspects of the course will feature shading, perspective, proportion, and composition will be emphasized. Observational drawing skills will be stressed. Drawing skills are the most basic requirement of artistic expression. The student will investigate various techniques and strive to develop a personal portfolio.
ART STUDIO III: Sculpture
DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to allow the student to explore various aspects of three-dimensional design through both the additive and subtractive process of sculpture. THe student will experiment with the methods of modeling, casting, carving, and assemblage. Media and materials will include clay, plaster, cardboard, found objects, paint, and other finishes. There will be a focus of self-expression through an emphasis on both modeling in proportion and creating abstractions.
